Toshiba REGZA Picture Problems with left side of screen

I purchased a Toshiba REGZA 40RF350U Super Narrow 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV about 2 years ago. Almost immediately after using it a 4 inch (or so) band appeared on the left side of the screen. This band is lighter than the rest of the screen. Although annoying, we tolerated the band so we would not have to deal with the typical troubles that come with dealing with repairs under warranty. Then about 15 months after the first use, the Toshiba is showing more troubles and all related to the left side of the screen. When it decides to behave, the light band is the only issue. The other issuses are fuzzy image on the left half of the screen. This progresses into verticle blue and white bars on the left half of the screen.
I posted my experience with the Toshiba LCD to help others avoid buying the same expensive, inferior product. I would not buy another Toshiba TV again and recommend others not to either. |

| I feel a little better reading the reviews only because I thought I was the only one that got a crappy TV. Same exact things. It started with a line on the lower right of the screen, about four inches up. Then, the entire left side of the screen crapped out with lines and random colors. Just like the others, about an hour on it seems to warm up and recover the left side of the screen but, obviously, this is not acceptable. Mine is headed for the landfill... and I will never, ever, ever, buy a Toshiba TV again. |

I purchased this set on February 6, 2008 from a Circuit City in Green Bay, Wi., solely because of the narrow bezel. I have purchased other Toshiba products in the past and was always very happy with my purchase.
Up until 2 weeks ago I was completely happy with it. Then I noticed the left 4 inches or so was lighter than the remainder of the screen. A couple of days after this problem started the entire left side of the screen filled up with the same colored vertical lines everyone else is complaining about. The first time this occured I turned the TV off and back on and the vertical lines disappeared.
For awhile.
The second time the lines appeared, they were flickering on and off so I got up and tapped (hit) the top frame of the TV on the left side. and they disappeared again.
Toshiba obviously knows they have a serious problem with these models, but just replies sorry, but there isn't anything we can do because the TV is beyond it's one year warranty.
This is false.
The company has already extended the warranty on the 46 inch version of this model.
For the same type of problems.
It goes without saying,. this will be the last Toshiba product I will ever purchase. |

| Stay away from this TV unless you plan to throw it away in 18 months. I purchased this TV in March of 2008 and by September 2009, when the TV reaches operating temperature, the whole left half of the screen degenerates in to multicolored lines, making it totally unwatchable. I have to say that when the TV is cold it looks fantastic, but only being able to watch it for 30 minutes at a time detracts from the value in this purchase. Oh, yeah, and the bass is weak and the remote wore out in three months. |
Great TV until it craps out

I will now add my comment to all the others about how soon my set also crapped out in about 22 months.
I was very pleased with set when I first got it, it fit the space in my cabinet just fine and the picture and sound was very good up till now.
Like many others I have gotten nothing but the run around from Toshiba since it is out of warranty. I have the same problem mentioned in a lot of the after the fact reviews. It has multicolored vertical strips on the left side of the screen (4x3). These strips go away in anything from 15 to 40 minutes but it shows that the screen or its drivers have temperature issues. Toshiba customer service on this TV is a joke, which says that they have had a lot of problems and do not want to take the hit and have them repaired of replaced, if this TV was a car it would be recalled.
I am now looking for a replacement TV and I can tell you it will not be a Toshiba, it won't be easy to find a 40" (perfect for the room) that fits the cabinet.
To have it repaired would cost more than I paid for the set.
My recomendition is don't buy this set, that is if it is still being sold. |

| We bought this tv in January 2008. It seemed like a great value and we loved it for a while. However, about 15 months after purchasing the tv the left side of the tv got vertical lines on it. It takes at least 20 minutes for the lines to go away after it is warmed up. Until then, you can only see the right half of the tv. Our tv also has areas on both sides that are lighter than the inside frame. We called Toshiba, but they told us they hadn't received any complaints about the product. They also told me to go ahead and write a bad review because so many other people like the product. I called the local Toshiba repair place in our town and they told us they had 2 other complaints about the same television. The customer service was awful, the money was a waste and we will never buy another Toshiba. |
Same thing for me - DON"T BUY

| Brought this TV October 2007 because it fit perfectly in my built-in cabinet. A small black line appeared in June on the right side 4 inches from the border. Now the rest of that 4 inch gap has vertical, random color lines from top to bottom that cover the entire portion of the screen. HD is now unwatchable. Luckily the gap is just outside 480P in width. Toshiba pointed me to a local repair guy, "Sorry, your screen is blown, $800-$1000 will be the cost. |
Do not buy this TV

| Brought this TV about a year and a half ago. About 3 months ago a small line appeared on the left side of the TV a couple of inches from the side. Annoying, but watchable. Toshiba has issued a extended warranty for the 46 inch version, but not for the 40inch, so they will do nothing about the issue. To top it off, a couple weeks ago the tv started having vertical lines appear on the whole left hand side of the screen, which basically makes the tv unwatchable. They of course will not do anything about this issue either, though it seems related.... customer service staff not helpful at all, just kept repeating that they "were sorry", even though from searching online, this model seems to have a lot of issues with it. I will never buy another Toshiba again. |
At 17 months this $1,500 TV is headed for a LANDFILL

| Within 17 months of purchase, my Toshiba Regza (a $1,500 television set) is unusable. About 1/3 of the screen is covered with multicolored vertical lines. The authorized repair center wants $2,000 in total to fix the TV set (it requires an $1,800 part). Toshiba customer service tells me I am out of luck because the product is out of warranty. They were not particularly nice, helpful, understanding, or at all interested in learning more about what is an obvious design defect in an allegedly high-end product. It is within Toshiba's discretion to service out of warranty products which have such profound failures within such a short period of time. I will never buy another Toshiba product and will share my negative experience with as broad an audience as is possible. |
Piece of junk.

| I paid $1,900 bucks for each Toshiba 40" Regza I bought a year and five months ago. Bought one for my mom and one for me. My mom's started having a vertical dark line towards the left side of the screen about 4 months ago. It's more like the picture is lighter on that side of the screen. I never thought much of it, I thought it was a faulty HDMI cable coming form my mom's Dish Network receiver. But a few days ago I tried hooing up a video game system and a Bluray player to it and both of those did it as well. I plugged them into all 3 HDMI inputs too, and all 3 were the same, the line through the screen. I called the place I bought it from and they said other people have had this problem before too. People are thinking of starting a class-action lawsuit against Toshiba for this, and if they do, I'm joining it. I feel like for 2,000 dollars I should get more than a bit over a year of good TV performance. I will never buy another Toshiba product again. |

What strikes immediately for this Toshiba is the frame of the panel, only 2 centimeters. In turn there is no other TV that can boast this record. But beyond that thin is also available in two colors, black and red. At the bottom there are the sensor for remote control and LED on / off. The controls for the TV behind the frame, along the left edge and include more than the power button the button to enter the menu. Are not very convenient to reach and this suggests that they have been made to operate only when necessary (when you can not find the remote control and TV to everyone screams volume, a classic!). And speaking of volume, it is the audio from her master. Toshiba leaves produce the full sound to the Onkyo sub, amplifier and speakers from more than 20 actual watts. And the result can only be excellent. An excellent performance with deep bass and clarity on medium high.
Despite this TV base is very stable and secure. It is possible to turn or tilt a few degrees without effort. On the back panel are all types of connection. HDMI, VGA, component, PC, RGB SCART is that S-Video and optical digital output. What is more from a side door, accessible without contorcersi around the tv, attract a HDMI input connector for the headphones and the entire sample audio / video. The remote has no backlight, but it is not difficult to find because the keys are arranged in a practical way. First turned to a window that leads us to the configuration. The first to be tuned are the digital terrestrial channels, the operation takes a few minutes and in the end we are all channels sorted correctly. As for tuning the analog channels the speech becomes more complicated. Not through the Wizard that helps the user to configure, but you must enter the menu on the TV and after a few steps is the configuration of the analog channels, even those with automatic.
After configuring everything we can finally enjoy the vision of this beautiful 40 inches. The television channels are seen to perfection, both digital and analog. But it is by watching films on DVD that starts the real show. The scenes that run on TV have no problems even on the movements faster, usually you see the trails. The color rendition is very good and the shades really good. This Toshiba is good when it is switched off, with its refined design, and a figurone when it is turned on, both for the video for his compartment signed Onkyo audio.
