Expected more from Sony

| I'm gonna tell it to you like it is folks. I recently purchased a "refurbished" KDL-40Z4100/B direct from Sony Style. However, what Sony sold me was a used, not a refurbished, TV. Although there was nothing functionally wrong with the TV I received, it was obvious that it had been used for some time. There were chips, tape marks, scuffs and scratches all along the bezel and the screen looked as if someone tried to clean it with a dirty sponge. Manufacturer date on it was 5/2008 so my guess is it was an in store demo which would explain why aesthetically, it looked so rough. A call to Sony customer service, to negotiate a $200 credit, was futile. The supervisor on duty, Dave, said the best he could do was a $100 credit, which was more of a "Hey, you're wasting my time. Here's a hundred dollars. Now go away" gesture. I spent an entire afternoon trying to reason with Dave @ Sony, but he held the line and said that he was bound by policy. When I asked for his supervisor, he said he could give me an email address to lodge a complaint. In the end, I took the $100 credit, got a refund for the 2 year extended warranty I purchased, and applied the total refund to a 5 year extended warranty (because my main concern is the back light). Needless to say, I expected more from Sony and at $800 for a used TV and it was used, this was a fair deal at best. Integrity is a rare find in retail these days and Sony is no exception. Hope your experience is better. |
No Sparkles

The one-star reviews complain about "sparkles". I've had this TV for almost a year and the only time I've noticed sparkles is sitting about 6 inches from it.
The USB function isn't great - it only works with "Cruzer" brand USB drives - I couldn't get the USB input in the TV to work with card readers, iPods, ect. Not really a problem for me since there's so many ways to get networked music into this TV.
The picture and the sound are so good I'll give it 5 stars. Once you watch a Blu Ray movie on this TV everything else is going to look inferior - I've never seen a better TV on the market, though I guess they've started making slimmer, LED TVs for like a million dollars. |
Great TV

Bought this TV about a week ago, got it at CompUSA here in Florida.. Was on sale for $850 so I jumped on it as I was in the market to buy a TV (Ironically enough AMAZON screwed me and my order and just said 'opps' sorry and nothing else) so they lost my business and I saved about 300-400 bucks.
But anyways this TV is awesome.. video games look amazing from my PS3.. Blu Rays as well..
I turn the motion smoothing or whatever it is for movies.. makes them to surreal and makes em looks like soap operas.. but otherwise its awesome and has a great picture..
Definate upgrade from my old 36 inch 720p westinghouse TV i had before this that died.. lol |

| Can anyone who owns this Z series TV with the silver bezel comment on whether it is actually stainless metal or just silver-colored plastic? Thanks! |

| excellent product, WholesaleAV was the cheapest place to get it from Amazon listing. I saved over than $400.00 than if I have bought it from a retailer like Sears or Best Buy. |
Very happy in all respects

Couldn't be happier with my Sony 40" Z - actually was not really prepared for the impact it would have on my viewing. Picture is stunning, and the sound much better than other brands I checked out in this price range. As others have said, I was leary about a purchase of this amount being made online, but Amazon stands behind their products.
Have received several comments about the sleek appearance too, which is always nice... |
Sony Bravia 40" TV w/120hz refresh

| Very nice picture and a new thin screen design. Has almost all the extra features of the XBR with only two exceptions that I don't care about. Not too thin like the new Samsung which seems flimzy and subject to easy damage. All the input and output choices you could want including an Ethernet port, USB, 4 HDMIs, etc. If I had to pick a weak point, I would say the sound is not as good as advertised which is unusual for Sony but I don't depend on the internal speakers anyway so I don't care. Over all, a great TV with excellent picture and good quality sound, just not the simulated 5-channel performance that is advertised. |
Amazing picture quality

Our old tv we had for the past 19 years went out and my husband was over joyed. We looked at all of the latest mfg/models and the Sony Bravia Z series stood out from all of it's competition. The TV was delivered to our home within 72 hours and the delivery company CEVA provided white glove service hands down with the install/setup. The picture quality is amazing and it can be seen perfectly from all angles. The silver trim looks sleek and you have no finger prints to worry about. All channel changing is done through our DirectTV remote and our family and friends can't stop commenting how awesome the picture quality is.
This TV was purchased from Amazon and not any of the 3rd parties that sell off Amazon. I'm 100% satisified with my purchase and CEVA with the white glove service they provided. Amazon is a company you can trust with small and large purchases. |

| Excellent picture quality, even in a brightly lit room. No visible motion artifacts. Does a great job at upconverting standard definition program materials, like DVD's. |
Superb Viewing

| We did a lot of research and viewed many different TVs over a three month period before settling on this Sony Bravia. We have been completely satisfied with its performance, clarity, brightness, and ease of installation. It helps that the rest of our components are Sony and the HDMI interfaces make 1-button playing of DVDs feasible. However, we have ended up with 3 Sony remotes...and no one remote actually can control all the features of each component. We can live with that, but it is a nit Sony should try to deal with. |
